The Preston Young Cancers Awareness – I AM YOU, Inc. offers programs of emotional and physical support and guidance.
We continually grow our offerings to provide support for all who are fighting cancer,
providing support to those fighting cancer, or are cancer survivors.

Community & Counseling

The PY Inc. sponsored walks for all cancer patients, recurring cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and to honor all who have passed on.

  • Walk With Us-I Am You will be once a year (July or August), beginning in 2018, in Montclair, NJ.
  • This program will be a fundraiser to help keep the services and resources that the PY Inc. will be providing for all cancer patients, recurring cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and those who lost the battle with cancer.
  • The goal is for all cancer patients, recurring cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, family and friends to attempt to walk around the entire perimeter of the park.
  • Walks will take place between  9:00 AM-1:00 PM.
  • The goal is to raise $150,000 in the first year, and to increase the goal amount each year.
  • The general format of the Walk With Us-I Am You:
    • The opening ceremony will present the purpose of the Walk With Us-I Am You.
    • Pastor will give prayer.
    • A letter will be sent to the Mayor asking him to be a speaker for Walk With Us-I Am You.
    • Oncology doctors and survivor speakers will speak .
    • Closing ceremony honoring all cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and those that have passed on.

There are many elderly and disabled patients who may have Medicare but do not know if they qualify for Medicaid. We will review the criteria with them and explain the Medicaid application process, or if not qualified will explore how to “spend-down” in order to qualify and review other possible community resources to assist them with care. There may be funds from the PY, Inc. which may be available to provide HHA services at the EOL if the patient is on a hospice program.

  • Services will be provided by appointment only.
  • Clients will be required to bring with them a list of documents so that their hardship may be evaluated.
  • The support group session will take place in a large conference room on the premises of The PY Inc.
  • The group will be comprised of 12.
  • The leaders of this support group  must be cancer-free for at least two years or more.
  • One group session lasts for 12 weeks, after which another group will start.
  • The program timeframe is for 1¼ hours, starting at 7:00 PM and ending at 8:15 PM.
  • Snacks and beverages will be served.

A free program for caregivers

  • This group will meet once a month.
  • The group will be comprised of 12.
  • All leaders of the support group for caregivers must have at least two years experience of caring for their loved ones.
  • This program will allow caregivers to share experiences and provide support for new caregivers.
  • The program timeframe is for 1½ hours, starting at 6:30 PM and ending at 8:00 PM.
  • The support group session will take place in a large conference room on the premises of The PY Inc.
  • Snacks and beverages will be served.

The PY Inc. will offer sessions for participants to talk about death and why is it important to talk about it and voice your desires and requests.

  • This program is an informal session where participants are invited to come together after completing online assignments over a meal to discuss how death has impacted their life.
  • The objective is to stress the importance of an advance directive for either themselves or a loved one.
  • The FIVE WISHES handout will be provided to each attendee.
  • This program will be provided (for free or a suggested donation) on premise or facilitated at one’s home at their request (for a fee).
  • Session will last approximately 2 hours.

Cancer patients will have mentors who have experienced their exact type of cancer that the patient is going through.

A Network that will expand our horizons globally for cancer patients and survivors.

The objective is to:

  • Provide a means to make friends
  • Provide a forum to share experiences
  • Share cooking tips and recipes with cancer patients/survivors around the world.

Confidence Boosters

This program is for male cancer patients — those with recurrent cancer, those undergoing treatment, and male survivors — to enhance their appearance.

Provides cancer patients undergoing chemo or radiation treatments or both who have experienced hair loss and would like a wig to their liking; custom wigs, affordable wigs, and free wigs.

  • The PY Inc. will be collaborating with the C.W.H.L. (Children With Hair Loss).
  • Children will receive free custom wigs up until the age of 20 years old.
  • Once the child reaches 21 years of age, they will pay a partial payment.
  • C.W.H.L. will provide a custom wig once a year.
  • An application must be completed by parent, must take measurements for the child’s head size.
  • Wigs come in all hair colors, all lengths (short, medium, long) and sizes.
  • A custom wig takes 4 weeks to complete.
  • The PY Inc. will collaborate with So Good Wigs.
  • This company has affordable wigs for all ethnicities.
  • Wigs will be in all hair colors, all lengths (short, medium, long) and sizes.
  • The wigs from So Good Wigs range in price from $20.00 to $140.00.
  • The PY Inc. will collaborate with Geah Salon to make custom wigs for cancer patients to their liking.
  • The prices start from $170.00 and up.
  • For custom wigs made by Geah Salon, an appointment is required.
  • Wigs will be in all hair colors, all lengths (short, medium, long) and sizes.
  • The PY Inc. will collaborate with Mahir Barbershop for haircuts at reasonable prices for men, women and children.
  • Haircut prices range from $10.00 for children and $15.00 and up for adults.
  • The PY Inc. will collaborate Kolbys Palace Barbershop and Salon, specializing in all hair styles and cuts for men, women, and children.
  • Haircut prices range from $12.00 for children and $15.00 and up for adults.
  • Kolbys Palace Barbershop and Salon specializes in flat braids, custom colors, weaves, braids, lox, flat twists, and natural hair.

This is a fundraising activity for the enjoyment of all

  • Luncheon/fashion show at [vendor] Vendors will be chosen at a later date.
  • All models are cancer patients and cancer survivors
  • Licensed volunteer makeup artists and hair stylists will provide their services for the models
  • A professional trainer will teach the models how to walk the runway
  • Models will wear three outfits out of four categories: casual, sportswear, business, and evening
  • All clothing will be from Montclair boutique stores: Glam Empire, The Little Black Dress, etc.
  • All proceeds will go to The PY Inc.

This program is designed to enhance cancer patients who are undergoing chemo, radiation, or both. The cosmetic and perfume industry will collaborate with The PYCA-I Am You, Inc. and donate free perfume, cologne, and makeup for all complexions. A licensed cosmetologist will participate to enhance cancer patients’ appearance. Patients may receive another free makeup kit on their one-year anniversary.

  • The patient is entitled to receive a free makeup kit valued at $400.00.
  • The patient will receive one makeup kit per year on their anniversary date.
  • In the makeup kit the cancer patient will receive foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, perfume, etc.
  • The cosmetic industry will donate all cosmetic products.
  • A licensed cosmetologist conduct the LGFF Program.

For patients undergoing chemo treatment, a variety of the above will be available.

Provides a service for female cancer patients who have lost their eyelashes from chemo treatment.

  • The PY Inc. will be collaborating with Lure Lash (eyelashes of all lengths and styles)
  • Natural allure – 60 individual lashes per eye –  $99.00
  • Captivating allure – 80 individual lashes per eye –  $120.00
  • Sultry allure – 90 individual  lashes per eye –  $150.00
  • Bottom individual eyelashes – $45.00
  • Eyelash strip – $20.00

All individual eyelashes (not eyelash strip) last up to four weeks.

The prices for eyelashes are set prices for all customers, including cancer patients.

The PYCA-I Am You, Inc. Bras, Bras & More Bras offers bras for breast cancer patients who have had surgeries (mastectomy and lumpectomy). This program will receive donations of free bras in all sizes twice a year for breast cancer patients who cannot afford to purchase a bra. For those who can afford to purchase a bra, the patient may use their Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. The company that will be collaborating with the PYCA-I Am You, Inc. is the Liberator Medical, who will send me forms and literature to distribute to breast cancer patients.

  • The maximum number of bras per cancer patient is 1 per year
  • The maximum number of bras being donated is 60-120 per year
  • If cancer patient does not have medical insurance and can afford to pay, the out-of-pocket cost of a bra is $38.00.
  • Liberator Medical that is collaborating with us, will accept all medical insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.


Reading materials are provided to provide spiritual and religious support to those who are seeking answers.

The Preston Young Cancers Awareness – I AM YOU, Inc. will provide ongoing spiritual support through practices that allow you to perceive the presence and power of God “in the moment” however one may perceive the moment.

  • Will include ongoing prayer and life-affirming literature.
  • Support groups will meet weekly.
  • The group size will be 12.

Educational Programs

The PYCA is collaborating with Leading By Mission and the Now We No Campaign to educate women and young girls on the importance of healthy and safe sanitary napkins to prevent ovarian cancer.

The PYCA, Inc., in collaboration with Cee & Learn, a non-profit literacy support organization, will provide onsite assistance to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers so they can improve their cancer literacy awareness which will help extend survivor life expectancy rates and enhance their quality of life.

Provide patients with information on various types of subsidized housing available to them in their community.

This series is a video and lecture to explain the importance of completing an advance directive. Also, this class explains the importance of advance care planning, appointing a healthcare proxy, and explains the purpose of and differences in each of these documents. Each attendant will leave the session with a completed FIVE WISHES FORM for their MD to sign. Session will be 1.5 hrs.

Nurses, specialist, and volunteers will educate cancer patients about their medical condition for their type of cancer.

The PY Inc. will have volunteers to assist cancer patients and survivors.

Services will include assisting in:

  • Finding appropriate physicians
  • Setting appointments

The PY Inc. will offer classes about the importance of advance care planning, appointing a healthcare proxy, POLST.

  • Format includes a video and lecture to explain the importance of completing advance directive.
  • Each attendant will leave the session with a completed FIVE WISHES FORM for their MD to sign.
  • Session will be 1.5 hrs.

Financial & Legal Support

The PYCA-I Am You, Inc. will collaborate with My Family Insured Agency to provide life insurance to all cancer patients and all survivors who have no insurance and/or low income, to be used for funerals and burials. A session will be held to educate the cancer/survivors on what type of insurance is available, what is the premium cost, and how much insurance coverage the cancer patient/survivor would like to purchase. Sessions will be held on a monthly basis.

  • Low income as defined by the US Department of Health & Human Services poverty guidelines is $16,240.00 per year for a family household size of 0-2, and the maximum is $41,320.00 for a family of 8. For each additional person in the household, $4,180.00 is added.
  • The minimum coverage for Insurance policies is $10,000 whole life insurance. The maximum coverage is $100,000.00 whole life insurance.
  • A patient chooses burial costs based on the amount of the life insurance that they have purchased. If burial costs are more than the insurance policy covers, then the family has to pick up the difference.

Educates patients on their legal rights and options (living wills, illegal terminations, etc…).

  • The PY Inc. will be collaborating with Pro Bono Partnership. This service is volunteer attorneys that help strengthen nonprofit organizations and our community.
  • Pro Bono Partnership will guide the cancer patient on any issues below, and will be giving more services.
  • Cancer patients can avail themselves of these services for as long as needed

Hospice is a philosophy of care which cares for the patient and family using a holistic approach typically in the final stages of an incurable disease. The goal of hospice is to enable patients to continue an alert and pain-free life and manage other symptoms so that their last months to days be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by loved ones. Hospice typically is provided to patients whose MD has certified that they may have 6 months or less to live.

  • This free program will be provided as a lecture with handouts and a question and answer period. It will be approximately 1 hour long.
  • Many payers including Medicare and Medicaid reimburse for hospice care- routine, acute, respite or continuous levels of care either in patient’s homes, skilled nursing facilities or a hospital.

Palliative care is a specialty whose goal is to alleviate symptoms for patients needing complex care to manage their disease.  Palliative care is not exclusive to the end of life care and are extensive and utilizes a holistic approach to care.

Palliative care is mostly provided in the hospital setting as a consultative service however; more community based models are currently being piloted and may or may not be reimbursed by Medicare or Medicaid.

This service will provide financial assistance to cancer patients who are in great financial need to help with co-pays, private care providers, rent, mortgage, transportation, etc., so they may live independently.

  • Donations will come from corporations, hospitals, retail, grants, fundraisers, etc.
  • Patient must provide proof of income, i.e., social security disability, social security retirement, social security income (SSI), public assistance award letter, private income.
  • If patient is behind in rent, they must show proof and a notarized letter from landlord
  • The maximum amount given for rent will be $5,000. If the patient owns a home, the maximum amount for mortgage is $8,000.00.
  • If a patient cannot afford to pay their medical copay for chemotherapy, the maximum financial grant will be $500.00. For example:  if a patient has 10 treatments and the copay is $50.00 per chemo treatment, they will receive a maximum of $500.00.
  • The patient can only request this service once a year.

Refer patients to specific transportation services which will provide the help needed to and from their appointments.

Health Programs

Music provided for cancer patients to soothe the mind and body.

The PYCA Inc., in collaboration with the YMCA of Montclair, NJ, will offer Live Strong, an exercise program designed by the YMCA for all cancer patients and survivors undergoing treatments.

  • Cancer patients and survivors are referred into the program from the PYCA, Inc.
  • This free, 12-week exercise program uses professional trainers to guide cancer patients and survivors.
  • Each class is 1.5 hours in length.
  • Both day and evening sessions are available.

After completion of the program, each participant will graduate and receive a certificate of completion from the YMCA.

The PYCA-I Am You, Inc. is in collaboration with ShopRite of Brookdale who donates the services of a dietician to provide sample menus and recipes for healthy and balanced diets. This program will help all cancer patients maintain healthy eating habits. The program is offered four times a year.

The PY Inc. will be collaborating with Better Life Starts Now to provide specific services for patients who have undergone chemotherapy and are in need of detoxification.
